Chandler and I had never been to the Outer Banks, so we decided to rent an Airbnb on Hatteras Island for New Years, knowing that it would be incredibly quiet in the off season. Our goal was to avoid crowds and COVID in a place where we could recharge a little bit and connect with nature. The trip was filled with foggy beach walks, takeout, 4 lighthouses, and a lot of driving to explore from a distance.

I think my favorite part of the trip was taking a ferry over to Ocracoke Island. I stood outside of the car for the entire hour+ journey on the boat, mesmerized by the foggy waters. On the island, I ate freshly caught oysters by the lighthouse. The end of the year was rough, but this trip brought me so much peace.
